Support sustainable incomes for professional artists in an Exclusive Dunedin season of Prima Facie.
Dunedin, Otago
Prima Facie by Suzie Miller
An Exclusive Dunedin Season directed by Lara Macgregor and starring Serena Cotton.
31 October - 17 November, 2024
Prima Facie is one of the TOP 5 FAVOURITE PLAYS OF THE CENTURY.
It has hit a zeitgeist of its time strengthening the voice of victims and changing the face of law around the world. Tessa is a top defence lawyer who specialises in defending men accused of sexual assault, and is then assaulted herself.
With the South Island still reeling from the recent Mama Hooch trials, and monthly Otago Daily Times reports on non-consensual sex cases within the city, never has there been more of a right time, right place, right play as Prima Facie. It is imperative to present a play that offers such a powerful public service as this one does to Dunedin and its wider Otago and Southland communities. However, sadly, Post-Covid, artists are in a funding crisis. Career sustainability is under serious threat. We cannot build this production and pay our professionals their worth without additional public support.
This astounding play, and the talent attached to it, guarantee the quality of this production will reach the creative heights it demands while providing a powerful public service to Dunedin and its surrounding regions.

Any funds raised will go toward supporting wages of the professional artists involved on the production. There is currently little to no funding available at this time to support sustainable incomes for professionals.
Introducing Birds of a Feather 20 September 2024
Kia ora whanau,
Only two weeks until rehearsals begin.
A reminder at how utterly essential and valued your support has been via this funding platform. We could not have done it without you and the support of so many other organisations:
He Waka Eke Noa Charitable Trust, Castle Charitable Trust, Otago Community Trust, Dunedin City Council, Wow!Productions, Prof. Stuart Young, Alister MacDonald.
You can follow my new company - Birds of a Feather - on FB. Go on like me! My gorgeous logo is designed by Nikki Kidd. Prima Facie will be the inaugural show for this company, and I look forward to announcing future plans for the company once Prima Facie has opened.

Two dynamic and informative Forums are in development thanks to Professor Catherine Fowler from Media, Film and Communication Studies at Otago University. I'll confirm dates in another week.
Here's a very recent article (and pic) with Suzie Miller (writer) speaking to the impact Prima Facie has had around the world.
My next post will be to introduce you to a very special musician/songwriter who is developing original music for the show alongside our Sound Designer and Composer Matthew Morgan.
