Sophia's Heart
14 February 2021Hiya all!
Adding another update as I've had quite a few people ask me the story behind this; and I realise I haven't elaborated on my givealittle due to having an instagram page dedicated to Sophia-Grace (_sophias_heart).
At 19 weeks gestation I went for the typical 'gender' / anatomy scan where the lady informed me that my baby had a heart anomality.. I was all alone at the scan.. it was pissing down with rain.. my little sister was sitting in the car with my (now) 4year old son as he wasn't allowed in. After that she asked if I wanted to know the gender, I told her I wasn't going to formally find out because I 'just knew' that Sophia was a girl, but due to her having issues I would. She confirmed that Sophia was indeed, Sophia!
The very next week after tears and fear I was flown to Christchurch so they could give Sophia an echo cardiogram where they went on to diagnose her with severe heart conditions which we (my older sister and I) were told she would need birthed in Auckland so she could have intervention after birth.
From there, it was monthly scans, and the next month it might have been they told me that they weren't sure if Sophia's outcome while interutero.. meaning that my pregnancy could culminate in still birth, and from finding out about her heart cond we were given 'options'. And of course; I chose giving her the best chance at life! My diabetes ended up out of control despite what we did/tried etc which was really trying for me but I pushed and pushed untik the end; we were also told that she may end up with hidrops so since the start of January so was weekly scans until birth ❤️
Her heart went hyperplastic it instead of hypoplastic as they had expected which ended up squishing her lungs Unfortunately 😭
