Spay & Neuter Investment Project (SNIP)

Just like you, I, Chloe Seabourn, and my friend Jo Coulam, are sick of rescues being the ambulance at the bottom of the hill and we are striving to make a change at the top. Every day on Auckland facebook community pages, we see posts of roaming dogs, free puppies and stray cats, and every day we are more determined to desex as many animals as possible to try and combat the issue.

Between the both of us, we have invested $8,000 of our own money to desex pets who otherwise may not have been, including multiple notorious intact roaming males and young mothers who have had multiple litters. In 3 months alone, we have desexed 70+ animals, including many at 'high risk' of procreating, and we have many more needing to be done.

The reason Jo and I have been so successful is because of our no-judgment and positive approach when dealing with owners. The majority of these owners are families who genuinely love their animals, but may not have been educated on basic animal care and with the cost of living being at an all time high, are struggling to feed, let alone desex their furry family members. We have invested our time in food drives around Auckland, giving out dog food in order engage with owners one on one about the struggles they face. After the very first food drive, we realised there was a significant need for affordable desexing. Jo and I have also been approaching owners of known roamers to offer food, advice and free desexing and the majority have had a positive response.
