SPCA Otago desperately needs new facilities

  • Good progress toward the rebuild project!

      16 November 2016

We're thrilled to let our supporters know that our capital fundraising campaign is doing very well. The $28,612 raised through this Givealittle page so far adds to our other fundraising efforts including community events and successful grant applications. The overall running total as at now is $909,000, which means we're almost two-thirds of the way to our goal. It also means that we have enough to start on the first building complex, which includes two veterinary consultation rooms for incoming animals, an adoption reception area for outgoing animals, a laundry to house the industrial-strength machines we need, and the all-important education room for community groups who visit our centre. We are thrilled to be able to start moving forward with stage one of the plan, and now we look to finish the fundraising efforts for the remainder of the buildings. The second building complex will be a dog isolation facility for incoming canines. This improvement will allow us to continue rescuing dogs like those we have uploaded in our new video today. These dogs need a warm, healthy environment to enter when they first arrive to us, this is exactly what we plan to build them with your help. Please share and help us reach the final goal!

Thank you all - from the dedicated team at SPCA Otago

  • Update 3

      16 August 2016

Great news! We have just been told we have been gifted $50,000 towards our project from the Lotteries Minister's Discretionary Fund. It is really wonderful news as this is a very small fund, and the only one to which SPCAs can apply. This now puts us over half-way towards our goal, so far we have raised just over $766,000 - including the wonderfully generous donations we've been receiving via Givealittle!

Please tell your friends about our cause, especially now as the Givealittle site is introducing a 5% administration fee from 1st September to help cover its operating costs, and while we fully understand why they are doing this, it would be great to receive more donations before this date!

Behind the scenes, our architects have done detailed drawings for the three new buildings, the animal facilities planned will be perfect for the number of animals we need to help, and have been designed to last for many years.

Thanks again for your help so far, without you we couldn't possibly have made it this far.

  • Update 2

      28 July 2016

A massive THANK YOU to everyone who has given money to our cause, we're absolutely delighted to tell you all that we have now passed the $700,000 mark, so we are almost half-way towards our target. It is so humbling to see just how many caring people we have in New Zealand, and it makes us even more motivated to keep on working at raising the full total!

If you know of any friends or family who might help with just a few dollars, please help us by circulating our update to them, we need all the help we can get.

Thanks once again, from all of us.

  • SPCA Otago receipts are eligible for tax credit

      19 July 2016

Good morning generous SPCA Otago supporters!

We have just become aware that receipts from our "Building Project" cause have erroneously stated that they do not qualify for a tax credit because the donor organisation is not registered. This is an unfortunate glitch in the Givealittle system that the Support Team are now rectifying. SPCA Otago is indeed a registered charity. We want to apologies for any concern or inconvenience this may have caused. You will shortly receive a new receipt directly from Givealittle that you will be able to file for tax purposes.

Thank you again for your wonderful support and please continue to help publicise our cause. Our target gets closer every day with your help!

    Best regards,

From the SPCA Otago Animal Welfare Team

  • Update 1!

      12 July 2016

Wow! A massive Thank You to everyone who has contributed to our Givealittle campaign so far. We are immensely grateful, because without the generosity of every donor we couldn't even dare to hope that we will be able to rebuild our centre. Our target is $1.5 million, and so far through all the activities, approaches, applications and other fundraising efforts, we are now a bit over one-third there!

If you feel able to help a little more by circulating our page details to your friends and whanau, that would be amazingly helpful to us.

We'll be providing our next update when we have more news on our progress. Keep your fingers crossed - and thanks again!

    Everyone at SPCA Otago
