It is our vision to share the voices of those impacted by war, disasters, and violence, and to hear their stories of peace.
This research began back in 2019 when Olivia Shimasaki (founder of www.speakup4peace.co.nz) interviewed nuclear test veterans, hibakusha, and those impacted by the use of nuclear weapons.
Conducting interviews and hearing oral histories of individuals sparked a passion for change. People needed to be given a platform to share their experiences, and so this movement for peace began.
It is my vision to share the voices of those impacted by war, disasters, and violence, and to hear their stories of peace. I believe through sharing stories, we can build peace. So speak up, speak out, and create change.
I need your support to continue collecting testimonies from those impacted by the use and testing of nuclear weaponry in both Aotearoa and Japan. It is integral we give those with first-hand accounts of the atomic bombings of Hiroshima and Nagasaki (1945) and Operation Grapple (1957-58), and Mururoa (1973) a platform to share their stories.
The interviews, oral histories and testimonies are provided FREE OF CHARGE on the website, as is online learning and FREE presentations to community groups and schools upon request.

Exhibition 31 August 2025
With the success of smaller exhibits on peace in the community, we are now looking to have greater educational impact by exhibiting in larger spaces, with the potential for an exhibit in Japan during 2026.
