MY TARGET
Hi, I’m Harriet (16) from Upper Hutt (NZ) and at the end of this year, I have this exciting opportunity to take part in the Spirit of Adventure experience, learning to sail a tall ship. I am trying to raise some funds to go and hoping you will be able to help me.
This 10-day Spirit of Adventure programme challenges young people to develop a whole new set of skills, such as leadership, communication and the importance of self-awareness and being part of a team. The Spirit of Adventure experience will also be part of my Gold Duke of Edinburgh programme as my Residential Project.
I am so looking forward to taking part in this experience in December and I started to raise funds at the beginning of the year with sausage sizzles and other activities. Unfortunately, over the last few months I have not been able to do this because of the Covid-19 pandemic. So as an alternative I am trying to raise funds from a quiz that we have put together, which can be found at the following links.
QUIZ LOCATION
There are 8 Quiz Rounds of 10 Questions and I’m hoping to send a small prize to the winner.
Please either send your answers in an email to harriet.fundraiser@gmail.com
or download and complete the quiz sheet at https://bit.ly/3l8X9Dt and send to me.
I am hoping that you will give it a go. If you enjoy it, please make a small donation, it would be very much appreciated as I try to meet my initial target of NZ$2,000. THANK YOU
THE SPIRIT OF ADVENTURE
The Spirit of Adventure Trust was set up in 1972 and has gained and maintained a reputation in New Zealand as a highly respected youth development organisation providing a unique environment for youth development and teamwork. Each year, over a thousand young New Zealanders go to sea on voyages of personal discovery on board the tall ship, Spirit of New Zealand. Although we learn to sail a tall ship, the main objective is to develop positive qualities in young people, learning new skills making new friends and gaining confidence to take on new challenges.

DUKE OF EDINBURGH SCHEME
The Duke of Edinburgh Award was founded by Prince Philip, Duke of Edinburgh in 1956 in the UK and has expanded to over 140 countries worldwide. It aims to equip young people for life and work and help them gain experiences outside the classroom to become committed, responsible and fulfilled citizens of the world. Doing the Award is a personal challenge and not a competition against others; it pushes young people to their personal limits and recognises their achievements. In New Zealand the Award is referred to as The Duke of Edinburgh's Hillary Award, named after one of our greatest adventurers, Sir Edmund Hillary.
Over the last two years, I have completed my Bronze and Silver Awards and over the next 12-18 months I aim to complete my Gold Award. This will involve Voluntary Service, Skills, Physical Recreation, an Adventurous Journey and a Residential Project. The Spirit of Adventure experience will also be part of my Gold Duke of Edinburgh programme as my Residential Project.
More about the Duke of Edinburgh Award in New Zealand can be found at https://dofehillary.org.nz/

The fundraising is to help raise enough money to take part in the Spirit of Adventure experience and to also fund my travel to Auckland. Any extra funding will be used to help me with my other Duke of Edinburgh tasks and complete my Gold Award next year.
