Help us build a home for a Tongan family by sponsoring a concrete block for just $2. Only 1000 concrete blocks are up for sponsorship!
Bay of Plenty
A team of Mount College Students are heading to the island of Eua in Tonga with Volunteer Build during Sept 2019 to build a home for a family that had their house destroyed during Cyclone Gita in February 2018. The family is currently living in a shack made of wood with a tarp roof. The team will work alongside the family and other local Tongan volunteers to build a 48 sqm concrete block home with a tin roof in just 5 days. In order to raise the last of the funds needed to purchase the materials for the build, we are looking for people to sponsor a concrete block. We use 1,000 concrete blocks in the house and the cost of the block, mortar and block fill needed for each block is approximately $2 per block. Donors can sponsor 1 block, 10 blocks, 100 blocks - or however many blocks you want to help us met our fundraising goal. Thanks for helping our team to help a Tongan family into a safe secure cyclone proof home.
Students are encouraged to strive for personal excellence and reach high standards in all their pursuits. A commitment to the community and care for others is fostered among students to develop well rounded, socially aware young adults.
Funds raised will be spent 100% on building materials for the house that the team are building. $9,000 has already been raised but we need another $2000 +. Any surplus will be used to help fund other Tonga Cyclone Gita rebuilds.
