Spook: A Web Series

SPOOK is a thriller-comedy web series following Anna and Betty, who have just rented a beautiful house only for them to have strange and spooky incidents happen. Anna is very logical and becomes suspicious of the house while Betty is the opposite and is curious. After being introduced to the entity in their new home, Betty becomes friends with it while Anna is punished for not being as accepting.

Who are we and why is this important?

Lauren Curtis is the director for this web-series and Georgia van Koningsveld is the producer. We are third-year students from AUT (Auckland University of Technology) doing a Bachelor of Communications degree, our final assignment for this semester is to create a film suitable for the web. When it comes to filming, we are fun and creative students who strive for excellence in our films. We love to put our creativity and passion into our projects which we are hoping will become a great job for us someday, SPOOK will hopefully be the start of that - but with your help this web-series can be our first step into becoming filmmakers!

Hi, I’m Lauren, and I’m going to be directing ‘Spook’. I have been making films since ‘Video Star' came out in 2011, which if you know video star, you know that those videos are trash. I feel like filming them on my 1st generation iPhone’s back camera is an experience every millennial wannabe filmmaker has to go though. I received ‘best directed' for my NCEA level 3 short film ‘The Journey’ and I am in my third year of University studying TV and Screen production. I am a very enthusiastic director and creator and try my hardest to make things that I am proud of. I wrote the script for ‘Spook’ and have to constantly remind myself that I am not a comedian, but a student who is obsessed with shows like ‘Always Sunny in Philadelphia’, ‘Parks and Recreation’, and ’The Office’, US version, of course. Hiya! I'm Georgia and I'm producing this web-series, SPOOK. Ever since I was little I've always been interested in filming, my Poppa was one of my influences because whenever my family and I had events or anytime we had family gatherings my Poppa would always be there filming. Because of him, I've always been the one in my family to pick up a camera and film whenever I can. When I was 15 years-old, I started doing media as a subject for school and that is when I began creating professional films such as a music video to the song 'The Middle' by Jimmy Eats World, a webisode drama called 'Lee: The Fangirl' and a neo-noir film called 'Black Out'. For all of these films I was the cinematographer which is one of my favourite roles. I've made plenty more films since then at University, but SPOOK is one of the biggest projects I've done and with your help, we can make this project a reality!
