Waikato

St Andrews Anglican Church has been a place of worship and a focal point for the community since 1881. The magnificent church organ is a cherished part of our towns heritage and was the first to be built in NZ by a New Zealander in 1899. The organ today retains many of the original pipes. The organ is in need of a refurbishment to see it properly maintained and indeed preserved so that it may be a service for community for more years to come. The church performs weddings, funerals and baptisms as well as celebrations and weekly services of worship. Without the essential work and refurbishment, the organ cannot be properly maintained in the long term. As a community who is proud of its heritage, this piece of early NZ history should be preserved and cared for properly, so that future generations within our community may always be able to call upon the church and the music at the heart of it.
