We’re transforming a bare paddock into a back yard for all our kids to ride, roam and play — every little bit helps!
Dunedin, Otago
The vision:
Our school grounds are currently some of the most constrained in Ōtepōti, — but now, thanks to newly acquired land, our kids will finally have more room to ride, run and grow.
We’re transforming a bare paddock space into a vibrant, accessible, multi-use outdoor area that supports active play, learning, connection and community. This won’t just be for school children — it’ll be a shared neighbourhood asset for tamariki, whānau and the wider St Clair and South Dunedin community to enjoy for years for come.
What we’re building:
We’re calling it The Big Back Yard. The long-term plan includes:
* The St Clair Flow Park, a pump track, skills park and trails for bikes, scooters and skateboards
* Grass mounds and tunnels for play, exploration and connection
* A new swings area for tamariki of all ages to enjoy
* An outdoor amphitheatre for performances and learning outside the classroom
* Accessible pathways, shade and covered seating for whānau to gather and rest
* New planting to bring biodiversity back to the site
Why we need your help:
The Ministry purchased the land — but the development is up to us. We’re fundraising and applying for grants, but we know our community is full of people and organisations who believe in our vision. Your own donation or fundraising campaigns will go directly toward construction costs, planting, safety features and materials.
Thank you. We can’t wait to see you out there — riding, walking, laughing, and playing on land we built together.
St Clair School is a state funded, Year 1-6 primary school, with a grading roll of approximately 450 wonderful learners. The school is located in Ōtepōti, Dunedin, New Zealand.
Funds will go towards transforming a bare grass paddock - creating a fun, active outdoor space for St Clair kids, their whānau and our wider Ōtepōti South community to enjoy.
