Restoring the roof to stop leaks to stop further damage to the roof and church building.
Wellington
We are needing to restore our roof. So far we have $7, 250 in our roof fund! We are working towards a two part plan. Part one is the restoration of the roof which we are fundraising for at present. Phase two will be a long term project of raising the money for a new roof estimated to be over $100,000. We would love to raise the full $23,875 to restore the roof. Thanks for your generosity.
St John’s Church was first built on land given by the Hawtrey family. The first church was opened in July 1847. The current church is the fifth to be built on this site, after the first 3 were burned down and the 4th demolished. The present church was built in 1922 and extended in 1972. In 1997 we held the 150th anniversary celebrations of St John’s. This little church built in 1870 is significant in that it is one of the earliest churches in the Wellington Diocese still being used regularly for worship and has three services a week. This is a vibrant wee community based in Johnsonville and is warmly known as 'The church on the hill".
