St Stephen's Cemetery Parnell - HELP FOR RESTORATION OF VANDALISED GRAVE HEADSTONES

$1,365 of $35,000 goal
Given by 18 generous donors in 5 weeks

Fundraising to restore Auckland landmark St Stephen's chapel's historic graves that have been vandalised.

Parnell, Auckland

ONE NEWS STORY AND VIDEO: https://www.1news.co.nz/2025/07/08/disgraceful-act-graves-smashed-at-historic-auckland-cemetery/

St Stephen’s chapel overlooking Judge's Bay in Parnell is one of Auckland’s earliest landmarks and features in many early depictions of Auckland.

During the night of 6 July 2025, 13 grave headstones were smashed - some that are as old as 150 years, and of historic importance.

This is particularly devastating given that an active group of volunteers have worked hard for the past six years raising money through two Auckland council grants and individual benefactors to repair the most important historic graves. Many of these have been broken. It’s a totally devastating act, and the St Stephen's cemetery volunteer community are deeply saddened.

The professional restorer who helped with the previous round of restorations has been on site and has quoted $35,000 for the work to fix the affected graves.

It is a large sum and we will making applications to the council to assist but every little bit helps from the community so please donate!

Because it is a registered charity, all donations are tax deductible.
