On Tuesday 2 October Manu's home where she lived with her mum, daughter and beloved pets burnt down. This is our chance to tautoko her.
Auckland
Manu would give the shirt off her back without even stopping to think about it if she saw someone in need. She helps many people in many ways every day, those she knows and those she doesn’t.
Her whānau is everything to her and her whare was full of aroha and the memories that her mum and daughter, whānau and friends created over many years. They will all need to hold these close in the coming days.
It is now our chance to show Manu and her whānau our aroha so that they can buy what they need, replace what has been lost and build a new home together.
Manu would never ask for anything herself, so we are doing it for her. Any koha you can give to help make an empty whare a home will be much appreciated.
This video and article shows just how destructive the fire was: https://www.nzherald.co.nz/nz/news/article.cfm?c_id=1&objectid=12135807
Manu and I work together in the same team and she is not only a peer but a close friend. Our team want to help her and her whānau in any way that we can so that they can re-establish their lives in a new whare.
Manu did have contents insurance, and all pūtea donated will be used for immediate daily needs, to set up and furnish a new whare (clothes, furniture, kitchenware) providing security for Manu and whānau. If there were surplus funds they could be used towards a deposit to purchase a house.
Settling in! 26 October 2018
We have moved in to a nice warm whare and are slowly settling restocking things as we go. We are returning to our normal routines of school for Prue and work for mum and I.
Thank you all for your continued love.
