Urgently fundraising for SDR surgery in August 2019!!
Auckland
Reid is 4 years old with Cerebral palsy.
We have been offered a spot for SDR surgery with Dr Park at the St Louis children's hospital in the US in August 2019! (We applied in 2018, and the current wait time is up to 2 years)
BUT, we are $60,000 away from getting there and would very very much appreciate your help!
So far we have raised over $50,000 which has gone towards his intensive physical therapy courses which had built up his strength and confidence. Reid absolutely wants to walk by himself and has been working extremely hard to do it.
Reids CP affects his legs causing very tight muscles and therefore his ability to move and walk normally. Reid cannot currently walk unassisted and has a lot of therapy to maintain and strengthen his muscles.
Public funding for treatment and therapy is extremely limited in New Zealand and we as his parents are doing everything we possibly can to help Reid be as independent as possible for his future.
Please help us get there!
(To be transparent- we have tried to re-mortgage the house/apply for personal loans etc but unfortunately that is not working out in our favour, we also had a givealittle page previously https://givealittle.co.nz/cause/steps-for-reid)
You can follow Reid on Facebook, Instagram and also at www.stepsforreid.co.nz

We did it!! 4 September 2019
As we are now in our last week of being in St Louis, we cannot believe that it has come so quickly.
St Louis Childrens hospital is a wonderful place, there is not one thing we could fault them on, it really has been a world class experience and they are so very fortunate here to have the hospital on their doorstep. An aspect to this could be that we are international customers, but I like to think all the kiddies that go there will have the same kind of treatment.
We have been very fortunate how smoothly it has all gone, while there was a rough couple of days around surgery Reid has bounced back far quicker than we were expecting and has just gone with the flow without much hesitation at all. This kid seems to have a bigger understanding of just accepting life and moving forward than we realise.
Not only have we been able to travel here to give Reid this opportunity. We have had a family member travel all the way over here leaving her own kids at home to support us for a week while Reid was in hospital and have had the opportunity to spend a significant amount of time together as a family to have some wonderful times to treasure.
We probably haven’t been the best at posting updates and photos as we often forget to take photos because we find ourselves being present in the moment rather than looking through a screen, then later wish we took photos!
It will be strange going home and not running around organising fundraising events for the next little while – we will have a few more things popping up along the way to help with the therapy costs but for now we get to work on progress.
Progress that you all made happen….
We felt your presence and your love. Thank you for being part of this with us ❤️❤️🚶♂️
