Stilts needed for free kids stilt workshops.

Waikato

In the 90's a bunch of Hamiltonians got together to try to shake the image that Hamilton was "boring". A pitstop if you will to study, get your degree and to bounce on out to the big smoke cities.

With determination and a twinkle in their eye, a local street theatre group was born. Subjecting the public to acts of pure delight and sometimes bewilderment, soon this troupe of performers were getting asked to perform at actual events, like proper events like Rugby World Cup etc

And so 25 years ago Free Lunch was born and served as way to provide income to street performers skilled in the craft of stiltwalking, performance and pure entertainment.

This company has always run on the smell of an oily rag, like most street theatre, but has managed to thrive and survive, making Hamilton | Kirikiriroa that little more vibrant and fun.

You probably have seen our performers at community events, we are the costumed people bringing joy to attendees.

But we want to grow and upskill a new generation of street performers and we NEED your help!

Our aim is run workshops (free or koha) for kids keen to learn the art of stiltwalking, to build confidence, but most of all providing a fun and supportive environment to learn new skills.

Previously we have run similiar workshops to help facilitate Stiltwalking training, but stilts we used are long in the tooth and now a safety hazard.

Use of funds

We need new stilts and ones that are safety compliant.

We are fundraising to source some EPIC durable stilts etc.. This is to ensure we provide the best and safest experience for participants. We are hoping for at least 12 pairs plus extensions.

Stilt workshops.  26 September 2025

Kia ora. Cheers to those who donated towards us getting new stilts for workshops. Unfortunately we fell very very short so will save the funds donated to go towards the stilt workshops when we figure out the next plan. it was ambitious but there was no other way of reducing any costs.
