I'm running the 10km Mud Sweat n Tears in operational MIST uniform to raise money for the St John Christchurch Major Incident Support Team.
Canterbury
As a volunteer member of the St John Christchurch Major Incident Support Team I have decided (maybe somewhat foolishly) that I will be running the 10km Mud Sweat n Tears event in full MIST uniform as a way to both raise awareness of what we do as well as raise funds for my fellow MIST team members
St John have created (MIST) Major Incident Support Teams to ensure communities have a wider rage of emergency preparedness, these are formed by dedicated volunteers who, in the event of a major incident in their district (and sometimes further afield) will drop everything in their day to day lives at exceptionally short notice to provide logistical, communication, and welfare support to enable the St John Ambulance clinical staff to concentrate on patient care.
The MIST team has specially equipped vehicles full of everything required to run IT and communications, provide additional clinical supplies, set up temporary shelter, provide lighting and just generally provide any requested support where they are deployed.
My training will be completed either in St John Ambulance operational MIST uniform or in a MIST shirts, when you see me out and about in CHCH feel free to say hi, it will give me a breather as well.
Volunteer MIST Team members make large sacrifices in their lives to ensure that, in the event of a major incident, our communities are looked after in the best possible way and we ensure our Ambulance clinical staff can concentrate on what they need to be doing.
I am a current operational volunteer on the St John Christchurch Major Incident Support Team
This money will be used for training and deployment gear for the volunteers of the St John Christchurch Major Incident Support Team. Additional funds will go towards team welfare items in the event of a major incident deployment.
Thanks Everyone 16 August 2021
Thanks everyone for the donations, the run was a success. Well as much of a success as it could be when the first 2kms were more a hike than a run ;-)
I'm really grateful for the donations and all the support. Video linked below and images of the day up in the gallery.
Thanks Ron :-)
Thanks Dale :-)
