Support Ian Hughes, Stokes Valley Vet who after 34yrs of caring & rescuing animals can no longer work due to terminal illness.

Wellington

This page is for Ian Hughes, Stokes Valley Vet. For the last 34 years he has cared for animals, treating and saving hundreds of birds, cats and dogs, kittens and puppies where most would have opted to have them put down and many a time an owner has requested that due to not being able to afford the treatment. He has performed countless surgeries and treatments at a cost to himself, offering credit to many so he can save these animals. Sadly many of the people he has helped have not paid their bills which has left them in difficulty. Five months ago Ian was diagnosed with terminal cancer and has not been able to work in his beloved clinic and with no income and a mass of outstanding debt, things are difficult for Ian and his wife Lorna. Ian has not asked for this page to be set up but is aware it has been done. If you are someone who has had a pet cared for by Ian over the years, or just simply someone who appreciates good human beings and animal lovers then please givealittle.

Victoria Roebuck's involvement (page creator)

I'm involved because Ian is my stepfather and for the last 34 years I have seen him save animals with compassion and care and need help to give back to him as he has done for others. They are currently struggling to make ends meet and cover all the things Ian needs for comfortable care which is why I have set up this page for them.

Use of funds

Funds raised will go to supporting Ian and Lorna Hughes and all or their animals they have through rescue and adoption, now that Ian is no longer able to work due to terminal illness, and Lorna unable to as she is his full time carer.

So good to get this update - here is just a little more to help. My four cats - all rescue cats - live happy lives with me in Pukekohe. Vets like Ian are a blessing for the animals, and now he deserves to be blessed.

We had lived in Stokes Valley for 7 years and even after we moved we still would take our furbabies Oreo and Prickles to see Ian. He is such a wonderful vet, and we are so saddened to hear about his illness and how his generosity to others has been taken advantage of. There are not enough people like Ian out there and it's such a shame that a few bad apples ruin it for everyone. We hope he can spend his remaining time pain-free and in peace all the while not having to worry about debt.
