Manor Park, Lower Hutt

Manor Park is a small community by the Hutt river and Belmont Regional Park. It is home to native birds, protected streams with native fish and eels that feed into the Hutt river. Waste Management NZ have decided to close their existing purpose built waste transfer facility in Seaview, and move it to a piece of RURAL ZONED land in Manor Park, within 30m of residential homes and next to the Hutt river.

If this goes ahead, it's not just Manor Park that will feel the effects.

Rubbish and contaminated water will enter the stream that runs through the site and into the Hutt river.

Anyone who uses the Hutt River trail will notice the smells and rubbish.

Anyone who uses SH2 will notice the extra 4000 vehicles, this site will be servicing the greater Wellington region.

There is insufficient water supply, any fires will have the potential to shut down SH2 and the rail, halting all commuter trains, as well as put the homes around it in danger.

There is only one exit and entry to Manor Park, there will be times when we can't get out of our own homes, and emergency vehicles such as fire and ambulances won't be able to get in.

We are a small close knit community of new families, retired people, a hospital and assisted living homes. As a community, we won't stand by as planning rules are changed by the Hutt City Council to suit their agenda.

All donations will go directly towards legal fees for fighting this, to protect our natural environment, our homes and the river for future generations.

2% Effective Fee
On average, fundraisers pay just 2% to use Givealittle. This is one of the lowest effective fees in New Zealand fundraising. We charge a 5% platform fee to cover the cost of running the platform. Because most donors choose to top up their donation to cover this fee, the effective cost paid by fundraisers is about 2%. That means around 98 cents of every dollar raised goes to the cause. I strongly oppose the proposed waste transfer station in Manor Park. Placing such a facility so close to the Hutt River and our residential community poses serious environmental and health risks. This area is home to families, and wildlife, and should be protected—not polluted.

Building this next to the river is irresponsible and going to affect the natural environment. No residential community should need to fight their own council to stop a poorly thought out decision like this. We 100% support this fight and disagree with this development going ahead
