SH2 is a killer road unfit for purpose and is stealing precious lives unnecessarily. Help our voice be heard by roading authorities.
Bay of Plenty
We need your generous donations to help fund promotional activities of our passionate and committed action group.
We will ensure the KILLER SH2 between Tauranga and Katikati is not ignored by the new NZ Government, BOPRC and NZTA. Our hope is to have the deathly road remedied appropriately. We need a safe road user experience for everyone that is sustainable, is actioned URGENTLY and results in ZERO physical harm to all road users.
Fix The Bloody Road has a range of highly professional locals who are volunteering their time, expertise and funding for this campaign. But we can't do it alone. The costs being incurred are for items like bumper stickers, t-shirts, flyers, crosses to line the highway with, public event costs and more.
Just in case you need reminding, here are THE FACTS*:
- 20 fatal injuries of which 93% were multi-vehicle
- 52 serious injuries
- 146 minor injury crashes
- 401 non-injury crashes
- 79% of accidents occurred during the day
- 100% of accidents occurred in fine weather
*Occurred on SH2 between Tauranga and Katikati from 2010 to 2017. Sources include NZTA, Safer Roads, AA Research Foundation, Ministry of Transport.
TO ACHIEVE A SAFE ROAD USER EXPERIENCE, WE NEED OUR COUNCIL’S HELP TO:
- Save people’s lives
- Make construction of a 4-lane bypass a top priority, again
- Confirm commitment to address transport and logistics issues
- Increase police presence
- Increase road safety signage
- Lower the speed limit
