Stop Sandmining in Bream Bay Whangārei - Marine Science Research.

MARINE SCIENCE RESEARCH DONATIONS [GAL]
We invite you to contribute through this Givealittle Page to help assist our Bream Bay Marine Science Research Team.
This movement aims to provide scientific data to help support from the Bream Bay communities to oppose the escalation of sand mining activities.
We wish to provide "information / Education" for the public to oppose the "Fast Tracking Bill" by the NZ Government to allow McCullum Brothers et al mine/extract tons of finite beautiful sand overseas and local use.
The practice of extracting sand from the ocean floor obliterates all in its wake, resulting in dead zones around the mining sites and potentially accelerating beach foreshore changes and dune erosion.
Intensified sand mining along the enchanting Bream Bay coastline could severely impact various ecosystems, including:
- Scallop and Tuatua beds
- Orca whale breeding grounds and juvenile learning areas
- Habitats of native Fairy Tern and Dotterel birds
- Sand dune structures
- Local fishing species populations
- Fish migration patterns, among others.
