MARINE SCIENCE RESEARCH DONATIONS [GAL]

We invite you to contribute through this Givealittle Page to help assist our Bream Bay Marine Science Research Team.

This movement aims to provide scientific data to help support from the Bream Bay communities to oppose the escalation of sand mining activities.

We wish to provide "information / Education" for the public to oppose the "Fast Tracking Bill" by the NZ Government to allow McCullum Brothers et al mine/extract tons of finite beautiful sand overseas and local use.

The practice of extracting sand from the ocean floor obliterates all in its wake, resulting in dead zones around the mining sites and potentially accelerating beach foreshore changes and dune erosion.

Intensified sand mining along the enchanting Bream Bay coastline could severely impact various ecosystems, including:

- Scallop and Tuatua beds

- Orca whale breeding grounds and juvenile learning areas

- Habitats of native Fairy Tern and Dotterel birds

- Sand dune structures

- Local fishing species populations

- Fish migration patterns, among others.

Today the team have decided to close this down. We thank you all that have contributed, stood out in the rain, sailed out to sea, attended public meetings and more.

The fight is not over with MCCALLUM bros and this Fast Track Bill destroying our beautiful marine life and communities that rely on it for food, tourism or local business. Head to our Facebook Page or contact Melissa Arseneault to help out.

2% Effective Fee
On average, fundraisers pay just 2% to use Givealittle. This is one of the lowest effective fees in New Zealand fundraising. We charge a 5% platform fee to cover the cost of running the platform. Because most donors choose to top up their donation to cover this fee, the effective cost paid by fundraisers is about 2%. That means around 98 cents of every dollar raised goes to the cause. Such a valuable asset for all ages and for many years the marine ecology is fast disappearing and removing the sand is going to make it worse. Find other ways to get your sand and leave our area alone. We have lost enough kaimoana through lack of control, now the beaches too will suffer. Kia kaha
