Stronger together: Support Twizel’s new Community Hub

$4,450 of $50,000 goal
Given by 26 generous donors in around 4 months

Our Community Care Centre must move, and we’re working hard to create a new home that will continue supporting our community.

Twizel, Canterbury

For more than 30 years, the Twizel Community Care Centre has been a lifeline for one of New Zealand’s most remote communities. Every weekday, our team opens the door to anyone who needs help. We offer a warm space, a listening ear, support with food or heating, guidance accessing services, or transport to essential medical appointments.

We are here for elderly residents living alone, for families struggling to make ends meet, for people coping with illness, and for those who simply need someone to talk to. We host groups, connect people to government services, support community clubs, and serve thousands every year.

But now, our building is being demolished. With limited time and limited funds, we are working urgently with the Mackenzie District Council to establish a new Community Hub on Mackenzie Drive. This will become the new home of the Twizel Community Care Centre, the Twizel Library, and Twizel Radio. We have begun the process, but we cannot do this alone.

We need help with the costs of relocating, building a suitable building, and preparing the site. Every donation, big or small, brings us closer to keeping these vital services operating.

This project is a chance to build something that truly reflects who we are: a resilient, caring, tightly connected community.

If you’re able to give, please do.

If you can’t give financially, please share our story.

Together, we can build a home for caring for today, for tomorrow, and for generations to come.

2% Effective Fee
On average, fundraisers pay just 2% to use Givealittle. This is one of the lowest effective fees in New Zealand fundraising. We charge a 5% platform fee to cover the cost of running the platform. Because most donors choose to top up their donation to cover this fee, the effective cost paid by fundraisers is about 2%. That means around 98 cents of every dollar raised goes to the cause.
