Our turn to support an amazing lifeguard and friend as she battles Esophagus Cancer
Christchurch, Canterbury
Annette has been a lifeguard for the Christchurch city council for more than 17 years. If you have been swimming at QEII or Jellie Park you would have seen her running around helping others and keeping those young lifeguards on thier toes.
Before that she was a nurse helping others. .
Around mid August Annette was diagnosed with an aggressive form of esophagus cancer.
Annette has just finished her first round of a strong dose of chemo.
Throughout the last 8 weeks of her chemo treatment Annette was still coming into work and doing some hours whilst showing us how strong she really is.
At the end of this month she will undergo a 10hr surgery where they will remove the cancer and remake her esophagus by using her stomach and chest wall.
Annette will be in hospital for a wee bit after this to recover.
She will be off work for quite some time to recover and gain her strength back. Annette may need more chemo after surgery aswell.
I know, and anyone else who knows Annette will see her chomping at the bit to get back to work.
Throughout her life she has helped and supported others.
Now it's our turn to help and support Annette through this tough time.
Great friend and colleague
