Help one year old Mila and her parents purchase equipment and devices needed for her Type 1 Diabetes
Hamilton, Waikato
On the 20th of May Mila was diagnosed with type 1 diabetes. It has been a long and hard journey for her and her parents. They are struggling to afford the proper devices and equipment required to control type 1 diabetes as it is quite expensive. Mila’s mum also has type 1 diabetes which makes navigating their new journey even more of a struggle.
Type 1 diabetes is an autoimmune disease where the body's immune system mistakenly attacks and destroys the insulin-producing cells in the pancreas. This results in the body's inability to produce insulin, a hormone crucial for regulating blood sugar levels. Without insulin, glucose (sugar) builds up in the bloodstream, potentially leading to serious health problems.
This is the type of family that don’t like asking for help but after some persuasion they agreed that a give a little page would significantly help them.
Together let’s help ease their financial stress.
I am also a type 1 diabetic like Mila and Mila’s mum
Money will be spent on 2 seperate devices to connect to Mila’s dexcom CGM to alert her parents when she is experiencing a hypoglycaemic episode or hyperglycaemic episode.
One of the devices is a Glowcose that will notify her parents of Mila's glucose levels.
The other device is a phone as only one CGM can be connected to each device
