Ex Student tackles 40.2km swim to fundraise for schools cancelled event because of COVID-19
Bay of Plenty
Quinn Boyle has very strong ties to the school and the community. He was an ex-pupil of Otamarakau. Quinn has approached the school and asked if he can fundraise for us as he knows the loss of revenue from the Fishing Competition will have an impact. When asking him what he was thinking I was blown away when he told me. " I'm going to swim 40.2km next week"
Yes you read that right 40.2km solo swim! This event is going to be NZ officiated by Phillip Rush an NZ Selector, which has come about as a direct impact of Convid-19 with International Swimmers no longer being able to attend. Quinn was approached and jumped at the opportunity. We are so very proud of you Quinn and behind you all the way. Quinn has asked the school to set up a give a little page in support.
Otamarakau School's biggest fundraiser is our annual Surf Fishing Competition. Due to Covid-19, this has had to be canceled this year.
We are a rural 4 teacher school in the sunny BOP. We offer a wide range of opportunities to students in academic, cultural and sporting fields. Our school prides ourselves on our AROHA values - Awesome, Respect, Ownership, Honesty & Active Learners!
Money raised will be used to provide extra support and a full time teacher aide to assist with opportunities in academic, cultural and sporting fields.
The Swim is coming up! 21 January 2021
Between Wednesday 27th January and Sunday 31st January Quinn will be attempting his solo swim at Lake Taupo. This was unable to happen in 2020 due to the Covid-19 lock down and subsequent levels, but the time is now here!
Quinn has been training 10km per day in the lead up to this event.
We appreciate all of the support received so far and we wish Quinn every luck for the massive challenge ahead of him.
