Support an ultra marathon run for meaningful nature based education.

  • Planting with DOC and MBC! 🪴📚

      14 September 2025

Experience a day at The Nurture School, where learning moves with us! Join our tamariki as they roll up their sleeves in Buller, restoring native habitats and soaking up knowledge along the spectacular Kawatiri Coastal Trail. This is education in action. Every step connects our students to the land, their community, and real-world learning.

Support our Givealittle campaign to help us keep days like this possible! With your donation, we can keep delivering hands-on, community-powered learning, upgrade our outdoor spaces, and inspire the next generation of guardians for our unique West Coast environment. Every contribution, big or small, makes a difference for our kids and our coast. Thanks for joining the journey!

  • Ryan Kitchin, Dad, Builder, Outdoorsman, Believer in Real Education

Raised among the oceans and hills of Kawatiri, Ryan spent much of his childhood in the great outdoors, surfing, hunting, camping, and doing just about anything that kept him connected with nature. Alongside his two siblings, Ryan grew up within a strong home-schooling community that shaped them into grounded, capable people who continue to inspire those in the towns where they now live. Their education was meaningful, hands-on, and strongly tied to the natural world.

Over the years, Ryan has become a valued member of the community, contributing his skills and energy to projects such as the Old Ghost Road, the Kawatiri Cycle Trail, and many other initiatives that have helped shape the region into the special place it is today.

Together with his partner Jade, Ryan has taken on his most rewarding challenge yet: raising their daughter and preparing to welcome another little Kitchin into the world to enjoy this remarkable place.

We are truly grateful for Ryan’s support of Nurture School, not only in taking on this challenge to help the school but also in generously offering his time and skills to help build our new learning shelter. His example is an inspiration to us all.

  • Spark change: donate and share to reconnect our tamariki with nature and meaningful learning.

Remember those endless hours exploring creeks, climbing trees, and immersing yourself in nature? Those moments shaped your mind as well as your memories. Today, many kids are missing out on these vital experiences.

It’s easy to say, “Kids are glued to screens,” but together we can change that.

We’re raising funds for meaningful, hands-on learning in nature that builds critical thinking, creativity, and problem-solving. Kids face open-ended challenges without instructions, building shelters, navigating terrain, observing ecosystems, and learn to:

    Think critically and adapt creatively

    Experiment and learn from failure

    Make decisions and collaborate

Build resilience by stepping beyond comfort

This nature-based learning encourages young minds to ask new questions and find fresh solutions, skills essential for lifelong growth and leadership.

Imagine every Kiwi kid discovering our forests, learning outdoor skills and critical thinking, and growing confidence and resilience through real adventures.

You can spark this change: donate to bring these adventures to life, and share to reconnect our tamariki with nature and meaningful learning.
