Enrich young lives: Pat and Ryan are running the Old Ghost Ultra to fund a teacher and new deck at The Nurture School.
Westport, West Coast
Imagine a school where children learn by experience in a lush Kawatiri forest. That’s The Nurture School. At its heart, we are education shaped by and for community and nature. Here, children not only learn, but also learn to care for the world around them. We nurture their development with practical and academic skills, alongside values that benefit society and our planet.
Right now, we need funding for an extra teacher for our one day programme and to build a deck around our classroom. An extra teacher will let us offer more personalised support and enrich each student’s learning. The new deck provides shelter and space, so children stay connected with nature in all weather.
To reach this goal, Pat Griffin and Ryan Kitchin are taking on the formidable Old Ghost Ultra, an 85 km mountain run on 21 February 2026. This is a monumental challenge for both, as neither has tried an ultramarathon. Every step Pat and Ryan take brings us closer to this vision.
Your donation, any size, directly helps these children. You’re not just funding a teacher or a deck, you’re investing in a unique educational journey that shapes thoughtful, environmentally conscious community members. Join us in nurturing the next generation and cheer on Pat and Ryan. Together, we’ll build a brighter future, one child at a time.
