Support Alfred & Sarah qualify for the Paris Olympics
Sunnyvale, Auckland
Waitemata Table Tennis (WTTA) is the home of Table Tennis in West Auckland and has a brand new international standard stadium in Parr’s Park, Henderson. WTTA players Alfred Dela-Pena and Sarah Her-Lee have qualified and been selected to represent New Zealand at the 2023 ITTF-Oceania Olympic Qualification & Oceania Championships. The events will be held at Townsville, Australia from 2-9 September 2023.
The Olympic Qualification event is the final step in qualifiying for the 2024 Paris Olympic games. Alfred & Sarah will be competing together in the Mixed doubles, Alfred will also be representing NZ in the Men's teams event.
On top of training and competing, Alfred and Sarah have been supporting our club as members of our committee, mentoring younger players, running our weekly West Auckland school’s team competition, casual night sessions and junior coaching.
There is almost no funding in NZ to support high performance Table Tennis players. For the past 10+ years Alfred and Sarah have paid their own costs for training and competition, with the support and donation from the public, the WTTA and sponsors.
The trip to Townsville is estimated to cost $3800 per player, required to be paid by 21 August 2023 to secure their position in the team. Waitemata Table Tennis is actively fundraising to help Alfred and Sarah, and we are seeking donations and/or sponsorship for them.
Any support you can provide will be greatly appreciated.
