Support Baby Asher’s Life-Saving Heart Surgery

  • Update on Asher

      30 August 2025

    Hi all,

We thought it was time for an update after processing what happened with his surgery and the post surgery.

When the team went in they realised it was worse than originally thought and from the time they did the scope on Tuesday to the surgery on Thursday he had significantly deteriorated. His trachea had compressed to the size of the inside of a BIC pen. While in the surgery they also discovered that his right lung had partially collapsed because of the compression of the vascular ring around his trachea. The surgery went beautifully well and we are SO thankful for our amazing surgical team.

Now it is time for the road to recovery, while he is doing really well we are still hesitant with sickness etc as he still has a very raspy breathing which we have been told could take up to a year post surgery to go away.

Thank you for all the love and support through this rollercoaster with our youngest boy.

    Isaac & Katie

Tomorrow our little warrior will be going in for his heart surgery where they will be snipping the vascular ring to allow it to expand and therefore not be compressing on his trachea and oesophagus. It will be a big day tomorrow and we would love if you can please keep us in your thoughts and prayers 🙏

We aren’t sure how long we will be staying up here at the hospital but will be taking it day by day ❤️

The photo attached is an image from his CT scan showing the vascular ring and how small his trachea and oesophagus has currently

Asher went in today and had a camera scope down his throat to see how bad the compression of his airways are and whether it was just from his vascular ring or the floppy airway.

Within 20mins we had little Asher screaming in recovery as he was one HUNGRY boy! After a feed and some cuddles he has managed to get back to sleep for some much needed rest.

We have another Echo scheduled either today or tomorrow morning and then they will hopefully organise his heart surgery date from there.

Thank you for all your support it means the world to us and we just hope to also bring to light his heart condition as we have been told it’s a rare anomaly ❤️
