Stand with Baz and his Whānau through his battle with Leukaemia
Porirua City Centre, Porirua
Basil, 48 years old, a devoted husband, father of two, and respected police officer in Porirua, has recently been diagnosed with leukaemia. With over 20 years of service in the New Zealand Police, with the last 15 years as a Scene of Crime Officer, Baz has spent his life protecting and supporting others — now it’s our turn to support him.
A passionate and active individual, Baz is well known in his community not just for his dedication to the job, but also for his love of the outdoors, especially mountain biking. His diagnosis has come as a huge shock to those who know and love him, and his whānau who are now navigating the emotional and financial challenges of this unexpected journey.
Baz has spent the first round of treatment in hospital and is now at home, travelling to hospital daily, Monday-Friday for his ongoing chemotherapy.
Some of Baz’s whānau live abroad, including a potential bone marrow donor, travel to visit Baz has been possible, but will become more and more challenging.
Sadly also, since Baz’s diagnosis his brother who lives overseas died suddenly, this too has been a huge shock to Baz and his family.
This page has been set up to help ease the burden on Baz and his family — covering medical expenses, travel, and day-to-day costs so they can focus on what matters most: his recovery.
Let’s rally around a man who has given so much to others and help his family through this difficult time.
Thank you for your support, aroha, and generosity.
A work mate of Baz in the New Zealand Police.

Quiz Night Fun 17 June 2025
On Friday the 13th of June we held a quiz night for Baz at the Tawa Rugby club. This was an incredibly fun and successful night where we had 17 teams entered. The generosity of all the participants of the quiz night will mean so much to Baz and his family. Through prize donations, auctions and team entries we managed to raise $1896 on the night. This money will be deposited directly into Baz's account.
