We’re raising funds to support Carolina & son while they face the trauma of David going missing, repair their storm-damaged home/bridge.
Opotiki, Bay Of Plenty
On Friday evening, tragedy struck near the Waioweka / Waioeka River in Ōpōtiki when David Roe was swept away after falling from his boat. Police, rescue teams, and locals have searched tirelessly. While hope still remains, David is currently missing as efforts continue.
This heartbreaking situation began when the swing bridge connecting their home to the outside world was destroyed in the last storm. With the bridge washed away, the river became their only access — either by crossing on foot or by boat.
At this stage the family hasn't got any other financial support from insurance or government.
Now, Carolina and their sons are left facing the unimaginable: emotional trauma, uncertainty, and the overwhelming cost of trying to create a safe, liveable life in the place they treasured together.
Their home has been a sanctuary for their family — a place David poured his heart into building and improving. They had only just begun setting up their home, and hadn’t yet been able to secure essentials like reliable power. On top of this, the last storm caused roof damage, adding even more pressure at a time.
It’s easy to understand why Carolina wants to stay where David felt happiest. But without safe access, and with their home needing critical repairs, life there has become extremely challenging without his income and support.
This Givealittle page has been created to provide practical support and wrap love around this beautiful family during the darkest moment of their lives. Every donation — will go directly toward helping Carolina and her son get through the days ahead.
I’ve known Carolina for years through church, and our kids went to the same school together.
She urgently needs support with:

❤️ Living costs during this traumatic time
