On Friday evening, tragedy struck near the Waioweka / Waioeka River in Ōpōtiki when David Roe was swept away after falling from his boat. Police, rescue teams, and locals searched tirelessly for weeks. On the morning of 10 February 2026, David was found in the Waioweka River near the area where he originally went missing.
The family will share details of David’s service once arrangements have been made. They are deeply grateful for everyone’s love, heartfelt messages, and support. There is a lot to process, and they will update again soon. Words fall short — the weight of this loss is immense, and the urgency of everyone’s requests has been overwhelming — but your compassion is truly appreciated.
