Raising funds for the Hairs family after Clayton's accident
Hawke's Bay
On Saturday 8 March, Clayton fell off his mountain bike and sustained a severe spinal injury. He is currently at Burwood Hospital for specialist care and rehabilitation. Clayton is paralyzed just below the shoulders. The road ahead will be long and anyone who knows Clayton knows he will fight with determination and heart for the most positive potential from this situation. We hear Clayton is mostly in good spirits in his amazing Clayton way...
Clayton and Rochelle have always been the first to support others (an understatement), and now it's our turn to be there for them as they adapt to this new reality.
If you would like to support Clayton's family, a financial contribution would help with some travel between Hawke's Bay and Christchurch, day-to-day costs and associated expenses, and something nice for them to do as a family when possible. A koha, a gift from us all. ACC will provide some financial support and this is for additional needs outside that funding.
Any contribution will make a meaningful difference, allowing them to focus on what's most important: Clayton's rehabilitation journey and the family's wellbeing.
Let's rally together to show Clayton and his family they're not alone. Your kindness will provide hope and encouragement through this challenging journey.

Travel, day to day support, additional costs, expenses, other products such as Weleda medicine arnica oil, body washes etc and additional financial needs. A koha, a gift from us all.
An update and short video with photos and some movement at the end 30 July 2025
Kia ora everyone,
It’s been two months since our last update, and Clay has made some encouraging progress — including small movements in his legs. He continues rehab at Burwood Hospital with hydrotherapy, the FES bike, and daily physio.
Clay is set to return home to the Tuki Tuki River in late August, where new ramps (designed to blend seamlessly with the house) will support his independence in an electric wheelchair. A dedicated care team will be with him 24/7, assisting not just with daily needs but also creative projects and outings.
He sent me this video to share with you — a glimpse of his journey and the strength he continues to show.
Clay and Rochelle are deeply moved by the aroha and support from this incredible community.
Sahaj Marg, Prem se!
Ngā mihi nui ❤️
