Fundraiser to support Damien’s Cancer fight without funding from Pharmac NZ.
Auckland
For those that do not know Damien, he is a son, brother, husband, father to three, and Pa to three beautiful grandchildren!
Damien has been fighting cancer for 7 years, and sadly in June of 2022, Damien’s PET scan confirmed progressive stage lV lung cancer. The targeted treatment that was recommended is not funded by Pharmac New Zealand, therefore Damien spent $70,000 on the medication, which has been unsuccessful and terminated. He recently had an operation on his right lung (which was 80% successful), due to it collapsing from tumour-related complications and water in the lung. His next step is fortnightly Chemotherapy, which is funded, along with immunotherapy which is unfortunately not funded in New Zealand. In order to receive the “KEYTRUDA” immunotherapy drug, Damien must source another $41,000 (total cost of KEYTRUDA drug= $63,000).
If you are in a position to donate, we would greatly appreciate any help.
There is a link below to share this fundraiser if you feel called to do so.
Thank you for your kindness!
Damien is my dad and best friend.
$41,000- This will fund Damien’s routine “KEYTRUDA” immunotherapy injection. “KEYTRUDA is a type of immunotherapy that works by blocking the PD-1 pathway to help prevent, detect and fight cancer cells”. The KEYTRUDA drug will by used with chemotherapy.
Update- terminating Keytruda. 9 July 2023
Hello all,
Damien has completed his first 18-week chemotherapy course and will be terminating the Keytruda as well. The cancer which was being targeted by the chemotherapy is in remission, but sadly he has another disease now in his “belly “ area. He is going to give another form of chemotherapy one more chance. This is funded.
Thank you all so much for the love, support, and financial assistance. You have no idea how this has been appreciated. Thank you all so much.
Damien and family.
