    Hello to you all,

I hope this update finds you well.

Florence is really thriving. We are having less medical appointments which has been a relief. The recent scans of her brain show that her cerebral development is on track. What resilience life has to unfold! Scans of her renal system indicate some immaturity still and we are hopeful this will correct itself in the coming months. This condition is common in premature infants.

She loves having baths and even contentedly accepts water poured over her by her big sister. Seeing Aureliana interact with care and love is a delight and now Florence has some head control, being held by her elder sister is easier to orchestrate! We so enjoy Florence’s sometimes intentional gummy grins' as she makes eye contact. Nights continue to be a challenge due to the fact that her preferred place to sleep is on someone’s chest. Its no surprise, given her kangaroo history!

It is incredible when I reflect back on the last 4 months. I can now so appreciate the words someone said “in the depth of this journey, in time the tough phase will be a memory and we will have new, ever growing experiences filling up our lives together.”

In appreciation, hugs from Florence and her family

Greetings to you all, and thank you once again for your generosity,

It’s astonishing that we have just passed Florence’s due date and that she has been with us for more than 2 and 1/2 months.

She’s off oxygen, and stable. Seeing her face without the tape and breathing apparatus is delightful and allows us to move about without worrying about the tubes and oxygen tank. Florence is breastfeeding well and has filled out with curves and creases. We are all still providing kangaroo care 24/7.

Abuela, Cain’s mother has been with us since the day I went into hospital and she continues to be an incredible support. In the coming month she needs to return home to attend to her other commitments. The Givealittle funds will pay for her flights. Cain’s elder son, now 26, recently visited and it was beautiful to see him connect with both girls. He even joined the kangaroo team.

All the while, the medical appointments are intense. Florence has needed weekly oxygen monitoring, retina development checks and I’ve had lactation support. We have an appointment in Medellin almost everyday. Medellin is an hour and half each way by car. We are grateful to draw on the Givealittle funds for travel costs and parking.

The funds have also gone towards additional babysitting for Aureliana, which is really positive and she loves it.

    Love from us all

Ana, Cain, Aureliana, Florence and Abuela

    Hello to you all,

We hope this message finds you well. We are doing well and Florence is close to 37 weeks gestational age or almost 2 months on the outside! She is gaining weight and force, as well as a louder voice!

We are now at home after almost a month and a half in the hospital. It was scary at first to not have expert help or beeping monitors to know she is ok. However we now have more confidence and being home is where we ALL need to be!

    Huge hugs

    Ana and family

  • Update from Ana

      3 July 2025

To all of you who have so generously supported us. I have been blown away by your financial contributions and messages of love. It is so heart warming as well as strengthening my sense of being part of a network of connections that spans oceans. Caín and Abuela (his mum), have been keeping the home fires burning, caring for Aureliana Helena. This has allowed me to spend more time at the hospital holding Florence. The great news is that Florence is breathing more independently, is able to have more breast milk and has gained weight, now above her birth weight. The 'kangarooing' is profound for both of us and it's amazing to feel her little body rest on me. Taking each day as it comes. Thank you all again for your support. Another update soon. Huge hugs, Ana and family
