Cj has wrapped up her last check-up for the year.

Last Wednesday she had her port removed and honestly, she was an absolute star. From drifting off to sleep to waking up, she didn’t make a single fuss. She woke up in the happiest mood and was more than willing to let the nurses do her obs every 15 minutes. You’d never have guessed she’d just had surgery — she was completely full of beans.

She’s going to be missed up at Starship, but we definitely won’t miss being there. The nurses were incredible — while we had our favourites, every single one of them made such a meaningful impact on her care.

Now our focus shifts to her dad’s treatment. He’s got his 4th cycle tomorrow and Wednesday, and then he usually spends the week recovering and resting.

But next week is a big one — Cj’s 4th birthday! We’re planning a big celebration for our little warrior.

Her hair is starting to come back, so she’s rocking the cutest little fuzz top. Her eyebrows and eyelashes are also coming in, and she is absolutely loving it.

We’re still working hard on getting her to eat more, as her weight has been dropping a bit, but we’re hopeful that with time we can help her gain it back.

From here, she’ll have CT scans every three months to make sure no new tumours are growing. She had her first one this week, so the next will be at the beginning of next year.

I’m so grateful that she’s made it through. She is strong, smart, and understands far too much for a soon-to-be four-year-old. I’m constantly in awe of how well she’s coped through everything.

Her dad, meanwhile, has had to apply for funding for a new chemo drug, as he’s highly allergic to one of the standard options. They also wanted to put in a PICC line due to vein difficulties, but that would mean he couldn’t work — and being self-employed would mean no income and lost contracts — so he’s had to decline.

We’re not out of the woods yet, but every day brings us one step closer to the end of this journey — and, hopefully, to a little more normalcy.

As I lay here cuddling my little princess to sleep, I’m filled with both happiness and worry. She has just one more cycle of chemo to go (woohoo!) and then will begin CT scans every 3 months to check that no new tumors are growing. This will continue for years to come, but we are so grateful to be this close to the end of treatment.

While her journey is nearly at this milestone, her dad’s is just beginning (boo!). He has just completed his first cycle of chemo and is coping mostly well, though the fatigue really knocks him and his body just wants to rest. Unfortunately, he also had a severe reaction to one of the medications and ended up in hospital, which has meant more time off work. He still tries to work on the days he feels well enough, but it’s a hard balance.

Right now, we are focusing only on the day ahead. Looking too far into the future doesn’t bring comfort, so instead we’re finding small things to look forward to—like a sunny day at the park, catching up with friends, or even simply enjoying being at home instead of in hospital.

Thank you all for your continued love, kindness and support—it truly keeps us going. 💜

  • UPDATE - August 2025

    HI all.

An update as of August 2025.

CJ has been beating cancers butt successfully and telling it who's boss.

She unfortunately hasn't been immune to some horrible reactions from chemo which led to some extended hospital stays, but the Nurses have hopefully fixed some things which will help to treat the issues better.

CJ has 3 cycles of chemo left and then will have a CT every 3 months to monitor and ensure there is no new growth .

Unfortunately, after an already incredibly challenging year, Tim — CJ’s dad and Hayley’s partner — has now been diagnosed with lymphoma that has spread to the ocular region. Further testing is still to come.

He recently underwent an urgent biopsy on his eye to confirm the diagnosis. Due to the location, the tumor could not be removed, and he now faces a potentially long and difficult journey ahead, including chemotherapy and possibly radiation.

This news adds even more strain to a family already under immense emotional and financial pressure.

Let’s rally around this amazing family once again. Any help — big or small — will make a real difference in getting them through this unimaginably tough year.

  • Sicknesses & chemo

We are currently battling not only mild chemo side effects, but the big bad ones too and winter bugs.

Cj tested positive for influenza the day she came in for chemo.

They continued to give chemo. But we had to stay longer because she wasn’t doing well.

We got to go home for one day but are back in here with other serious chemo related complications from internal bleeding, and positive cultures for a blood infection.

These are the times where it is the most hardest for us all.

Needing to be in hospital with her for long overnight stays, to support her through all this because these are things that no child should have to go through. Especially not alone.

    So here we are.

I am so thankful for the play rooms in starship. They make it fun for her. To do normal kid stuff and play with toys.

3 weeks ago Cj had a CT scan.

It showed no new tumour and no residual tumour either which is fantastic.

We still have 5 cycles of chemo to go.

End date- end of September last one unless we have more delays.

She is coping so well considering.

We are proud of her every single day.
