Support for CJ and Her Brave Fight Against Rare Cancer

Support for CJ's amazing family!

Auckland

Hi everyone,

We’re fundraising for a beautiful young family whose lives were turned upside down just after Christmas. Their bright and bubbly 3-year-old daughter, CJ, was rushed to hospital with what was believed to be a simple infection. Within days, she was airlifted to Auckland and diagnosed with an extremely rare cancer — Pleuropulmonary Blastoma — so rare she is the only child being treated for it in New Zealand right now.

Since then, CJ has faced weekly chemotherapy, major surgery, and long hospital stays. She has shown incredible courage and strength far beyond her years. Her parents have been by her side every step of the way — juggling hospital life, sleepless nights, work, and family responsibilities under immense stress.

CJ still has many months of chemotherapy ahead, and this journey is far from over. We’re raising funds to help relieve the financial pressure — covering basic needs like food, bills, travel, and accommodation — so her parents can stay focused on what matters most: CJ’s care and recovery.

Every donation, no matter how small, makes a difference. Thank you so much for your kindness, support, and generosity.

Update before christmas  17 November 2025

Posted by: Hayley Woods

Cj has wrapped up her last check-up for the year.

Last Wednesday she had her port removed and honestly, she was an absolute star. From drifting off to sleep to waking up, she didn’t make a single fuss. She woke up in the happiest mood and was more than willing to let the nurses do her obs every 15 minutes. You’d never have guessed she’d just had surgery — she was completely full of beans.

She’s going to be missed up at Starship, but we definitely won’t miss being there. The nurses were incredible — while we had our favourites, every single one of them made such a meaningful impact on her care.

Now our focus shifts to her dad’s treatment. He’s got his 4th cycle tomorrow and Wednesday, and then he usually spends the week recovering and resting.

But next week is a big one — Cj’s 4th birthday! We’re planning a big celebration for our little warrior.

Her hair is starting to come back, so she’s rocking the cutest little fuzz top. Her eyebrows and eyelashes are also coming in, and she is absolutely loving it.

We’re still working hard on getting her to eat more, as her weight has been dropping a bit, but we’re hopeful that with time we can help her gain it back.
