Impatient twins attempting to break free four months too early, paired with COVID putting life on hold, this whanau need our support

Taranaki

Madison (5) and Melody(1) are looking forward to being big sisters to two beautiful twins, not expecting their grand debut into the world for another four months, however the twins take after their lively parents and seem to be impatient; trying to break free at just 23 weeks along.

Kyla started to go into preterm labour on Wednesday 06th May at Taranaki Base Hospital, however things were not looking good and she was flown to Waikato Hospital. It's expected that they will be there for at least 16 weeks, which is a huge emotional and financial strain to the family.

The little girl twin is 600 grams, and the little boy is 500 grams, which is just far too little as they'd only have a 30% chance of survival currently, and even if they did make it then a life of medical interventions and challenges faces them both.

Kyla is being a strong, loving and brave mumma bear; she is away from the rest of her family and support networks having conversations with doctors about whether or not to resuscitate her babies, which is an impossible choice made worse by knowing she has a 70% chance of going into full labour at any moment.

With the twins coming four months early, the family haven't been able to get the things needed for the babies; a bigger car, beds, prams etc. Because of COVID-19, the family have been unable to work as sheep shearers, and now with the current circumstances, they are at a loss of how to provide for their family going forward.

Kyla and David have been a part of the rural Taranaki community for what feels like forever. You might've seen David out on field of the Toko Rugby club, or Kyla walking around the hills with a massive boar on her back, or you may even know David as 0.5 of the troublesome duo that is the Jeffery twins.

However it is that you have had this beautiful family in your life, you will know that they are the kiwi good sorts that roll up their sleeves and get things done for their friends, family and community.

Sometimes bad things just happen to good people, and it never makes sense, but when we pull together as a community with love and support, great things happen and now it's our turn to give what we can so they have some peace of mind with financial resources to make this awful situation just a little easier to get through.

Change of bank account  25 June 2020

Kia ora koutou,

Thank you so much for all your kind donations and support on behalf of Kyla and the family.

I am just letting you know that unfortunately Kyla doesn't have the right ID to verify her bank account with the Give-a-little processes, so has asked to change it to the bank account of Darrion Jeffery, a family member who will then pass the funds onto the family.

I can confirm that the money raised will still be going to the people specified and for it's rightful purpose.

Nga mihi nui,

Hannah
