Replace and secure disabled play equipment and all other items/equipment associated with the Rawhiti Domain Woodland Playground.

New Brighton, Christchurch

After 7 years, the Woodland Playground is nearly finished. There are wonderful logs to climb, trees and nets to swing off, bugs to find, butterflies to delight in and birds to watch among many thousands of plants that have been planted by volunteers. On one side there is disability play equipment suitable for not only physically challenged but the neuro-diverse and those with mental health issues. There is a 1km pathway around the woodland, safe and smooth for wheelchairs or those on walking frames or sticks, seats are dotted around to take in the calm serenity of the trees and the sounds of native flora rustling.

Recently we have suffered the plight of vandalism and theft from, well call these people what you like. In particular, there have been many plants disappear to other homes, even a cable drum painted like a toadstool for the fairy garden has another home somewhere too. The fairy houses and doors made by our local children have been demolished and treated very unfairly. But the worst of it was a particular nest swing for wheelchair and disabled children, it too has been taken, not just the swing net itself but the chain as well.

NOTE: Since the time this was written, we have had a very generous offer from the Mauger Foundation to replace the nest swing. We would still like to install more equipment suitable for the disabled including an obstacle course also suitable for sight impaired. A major part of this funding is security, airtags, cameras and lights.

About us

1. Create nature playground for children of ALL abilities with major planting

2 Create habitats for bees, birds, bugs and butterflies, and learning circles. As well as rongoa gardens and fruit forests

3. Education up to University level - MOE involvement

Use of funds

This money will go to installing disability equipment and to ensure all future equipment stays in its place and doesnt go walkabout. If we receive sufficient money, there will lights and cameras all around the place and airtags on the more expensive items.
