Support for Raquel and her Family to help when needed.
Wellington
Our dear friend and colleague Raquel Sorensen was diagnosed with Leukemia in April. She has already started her treatment and is doing incredibly well and is constantly showing her strength and resilience, very much on brand for Raquel. Let's all rally around Raquel and she takes Leukemia head on!!
The below update is directly from Raquel and in her own words.
Kia ora, e te whānau!
I am alive and kicking! Although my Acute Lymphoblastic Leukaemia (ALL) it is rare and complex to treat, it can be cured! I will be fighting tooth and nails to see this through. Thank you very much for all your support and willingness to help us in these times. It is a long road ahead and I will calling up on help when needed 😊
Due to the cancer cells having overwhelmed my good cells, I am immune compromised. My treatment is aggressive and complex so doctors only look at 3 months' worth of treatment at a time.
The first 3 months consist of nuking the bone marrow! Pretty much, a classic turn it off and then turn it on again. This means I will have zero immunity and the biggest risk is infection from anything, so I need to be isolated for the next 4 to 8 weeks. So further down the track I should be fine to have visitors but I’ll let you know.
I am fighting this with all I have! I will get back to you all.
Raquel 🙏🏼❤💪🏼
Raquel is a dear friend and colleague and someone who we all care about deeply.
The money will be used to help source healthy foods, cover any incidentals that pop up and any unforeseen treatment costs (Raquel is going to be in chemotherapy for up to a year. There may be some costs we are not aware of yet, which are not covered by the public health care system.)
