Here is a link to Stuff article with Amys initial misdiagnosis after her untimely death.

    https://i.stuff.co.nz/national/health/125212178/woman-died-from-ovarian-cancer-after-being-told-she-likely-had-an-sti

Thank you all for all the support you have given Amy and her family during this difficult time, pls continue to support us as we now endeavour to find answers to events that led so quickly and traumatically to Amys premature death.

Amy suffered throughout her illness, at times unnecessarily horrifically, not always attributable in our opinion to her illness. Help us to pursue the answers we seek and endeavour to bring about change in the way gynaecological illnesses are addressed or not addressed in our ED departments, so that together we may all play a part in preventing more woman from the consequences and horror that is ovarian cancer left undetected.

The importance of access to simple investigation procedures when presenting at any health centre/ hospital with abdominal pain cannot be stressed enough..it can and will save lives.

No one should have to live what Amy lived.

This is what she wanted, she wished that no one else would fall through the gap that she did so

we must push and push hard for change, for our mothers, daughters, sisters, aunties, nieces, friends

    our woman and for Amy.

Amy lost her battle with cancer this week, it was truly an uneven fight as the medical system and New Zealand are just not up to speed for Amys type of cancer. Just sad sad sad.

Please all look out for your loved ones and advocate and speak for them if you think they may be slipping through the public health system.

Because it is not as good as we think.

    Love to all.

    Matt

P.s The rest of this givealittle money after some funeral cost deductions will be donated to a cancer cause. Or other women fighting ovarian cancer.

I would to get some thoughts on this please.

    Matt.

My mother had this same battle to get her illness taken seriously. By the time they did find her ovarian cancer she was terminally ill and given 3 months to live. She fought so hard for almost 10 years in the end. Ovarian cancer is ignored compared to breast cancer....put into the too hard basket. My mother did every trial and experimental surgery she could get in the hope it may save someone later on. I really feel for you guys.

I agree donating to other women fighting the battle is a great idea.

  • Thanks to all the awesome people!

Thanks to all the people who donated to help support Amy. Few hoops and loops to jump through to actually get the money. But getting close.

Amy is still in the front line fighting the good fight. She’s in lots of pain and tired a lot, but determined to give it her best shot at beating this evil beast inside her.

Please keep her in your thoughts 👍🏻

    Love ya Amy!

We are so very blown away by the contributions towards Amy! We are all hoping she can get out of hospital for a break soon and enjoy some time with us in a neutral environment.

    Love to all who care.

    Matt.

Ovarian cancer! Please if you can’t donate, then please share and learn from my sisters story.

My sister has become yet another victim of poor basic health care in the public system. Presented to ED in an ambulance with sever internal abdominal pain and a medical history of ovarian cysts was not given scans to look inside. Instead they swabbed her for an STD and sent her on her way to the care of a GP

A month later the cyst (fist sized tumour) burst spreading and extremely rare and invasive mucinous carcinoma (it differs from the examples seen often with breast cancer in the fact it won’t be subsided or eliminated with chemo) form of cancer through her abdomen. She now faces her mortality in a matter of months as it rapidly grows and spreads. It’s so rare they can’t even do clinical studies as there are not enough trial candidates in the world. If the ovarian tumour was caught intact the prognosis could have been years for her.

This devastating news has forced its way into Amy and our lives at a very venerable time and transition.

Anything will help her. But purely education is all I ask. Just know those cysts can be lethal. Ovarian cancer is not talked about at very well known here in NZ yet it kills more women that the road toll, cervical cancer and melanoma each year.

    Thanks to all.
