Trouble in Paradise: support Waiheke dog, Gaita's legal battle for the right to life!

  • Judge postpones date for decision on Gaita's future

      10 April 2019
    Main image

The 4th of April passed by and any decision on Gaita's future has been postponed until 10th July 2019. We are still hoping for a positive outcome for Gaita. Two years has now passed since her altercation with the neighbour's dog. A new fence is in the process of being built between the properties and Gaita continues to act as Cristina's support dog, travelling with her everywhere.

Let's put in one last effort to help Cristina and Jerome save their family dog. Thank you all for your kind support of Cristina and Jerome to date. :) :)

  • Legal Requirements, and Country hospitality at Gaita's Waiheke finca

MIla and her friend were invited to Cristina and Jerome's farm for a ride on Cristina's ponies. What a lovely sunny morning, the kids had playing with her nieces and nephew, being led around the yard on the ponies, jumping on the in-built trampoline, playing in shady sheds. Even using the compostible sawdust toilets were a new experience for us visitors. Gaita sat by, watching the children play, catching up on a few brush strokes whenever offered.

Regarding the Court case against Gaita and her owners, I have been asked by the Givealittle moderator to point out to all generous sponsors that, following several anonymous complaints a few weeks ago, some detail in the original Overview were changed to clarify the legal situation. Cristina's first language is Spanish, her second French, and I am an English speaker, so the original text was based on my understanding of the explanation provided to me in English.

The current Overview reads: "Gaita is in legal trouble due to an argument she and her brother got into with a neighbour's dog. The neighbour's dog was injured. The neighbours/Auckland Council have taken her owner to Court."

Originally I had written: "Gaita is in legal trouble due to an argument she and her brother got into with a neighbour's dog, while on Gaita's own property. The neighbour's dog was injured on a fence, but has fully recovered. The neighbours want Gaita and her brother put down and have taken her owner to Court."

I refer you to Stuff media who were able to access and report on Court proceedings: https://www.stuff.co.nz/auckland/110271766/waiheke-woman-goes-on-a-hunger-strike-to-save-her-pet-dog . However the Court has declined Givealittle's request for publication.

Givealittle are happy to refund any donations should you feel that you no longer wish to support Gaita and Cristina's cause. If so, please contact Givealittle at https://givealittle.co.nz/contact using the email you donated with a request a refund. .

If you wish to continue to support Cristina and Gaita, please do join in Andres Eichenbaum and the community's "Help Save Gaita fundraiser" at Old Blackpool School this Sunday 24th February 5.00pm to 8.00pm. DJs, Circus freaks, Yummy Food! 😍

  • Multi the sheep meets Gaita

      5 February 2019

Thank you to Ember::vision for creating and posting this lovely video of Multi the sheep and Gaita the dog- to Facebook- video Waiheke, and to U-tube, with these comments:

    "These pets are ridiculously sociable!

Find out more about Gaita, an adored family dog & mum of amazing pups, who was in court facing euthanasia for dog-related territorial dispute."

So many thanks for your kind donations to Cristina and Gaita. Please continue your support and contribution until 4 April 2019, when hopefully we will achieve a positive Court outcome for Gaita.👍

  • Driftwood carving of Gaita at Matiatia

      3 February 2019
    Main image

Gaita and Cristina have gone home, after Cristina's 8 day hunger strike for her dog has ended. Home for a good feed for Cristina, and some farm work for Gaita (rounding up the chickens). But you will still see Gaita at the ferry terminal- Cristina made a drift wood carving of Gaita, under the protest tree, to thank you for your support. We need to continue our support for Gaita and Cristina until their fight for life is won.

Thank you to all who have already contributed to Gaita's legal fund. 😍

  • Top dog behaviourist, Doggy Dan, writes a reference for Gaita

      31 January 2019

Top dog behaviourist Doggy Dan has written in support of Gaita's plea for life- please see his letter posted on line.

Cristina is still on a hunger strike and sleeping rough outside Matiatia ferry terminal with Gaita but has not personally asked for money to help her cause.

Cristina is in a time of crisis, she needs her dog, and she needs what strength she can muster to overcome her own cancer. And she needs to be able to eat.

Help Cristina save her dog, and help restore Cristina to health.
