Gaita is a beloved family dog whose owners face high legal fees in a struggle to maintain her right to live. Help save Gaita.
Auckland
Gaita is lovely mature family dog, who lives on a small lifestyle farm on Waiheke Island. Gaita is in legal trouble due to an argument she and her brother got into with a neighbour's dog. The neighbour's dog was injured. Auckland Council have taken her owner to Court. Gaita has been in the family for years, producing puppies for other extended family members, and playing with the children as they grew up. She also helps her owners round up the family's free-range chickens. All of this is causing much distress to her owner, who is also fighting cancer herself, and legal fees have already reached $5,000. Her owner Cristina is even sleeping rough at the ferry terminal, on a hungry strike, pleading for anyone in the Community to help, if they can.
Help Gaita's owners Cristina and Jerome raise the funds they need to save Gaita from destruction. They are people who care about animals and are much loved in the community.
See Gaita here pictured with my granddaughter Mila Belle.
I am a fellow resident of Waiheke Island, and am concerned about the welfare of companion animals on this beautiful island.

Judge postpones date for decision on Gaita's future 10 April 2019
The 4th of April passed by and any decision on Gaita's future has been postponed until 10th July 2019. We are still hoping for a positive outcome for Gaita. Two years has now passed since her altercation with the neighbour's dog. A new fence is in the process of being built between the properties and Gaita continues to act as Cristina's support dog, travelling with her everywhere.
Let's put in one last effort to help Cristina and Jerome save their family dog. Thank you all for your kind support of Cristina and Jerome to date. :) :)
