Help Janneth live her best life with a rare autoimmune disease and chronic pain

Christchurch, Canterbury

Janneth is one of the kindest, most generous souls; someone who connects with intention and uses her artistic talents to amplify stories of others. In the last few years she has struggled with health and has been diagnosed with various conditions including a very rare auto immune disease, pemphigus*, as well as ACNES*.

This has meant lots of hospital visits, stays, and a total change in lifestyle for Janneth - as you can imagine, chronic pain has seriously impacted her ability to work. In addition, there are some tests and medications that would help her situation that are not completely covered through the public health system. We are hoping to fundraise enough to get Janneth a few doses of Rituximab asap privately - this will cost approximately $20K.

Janneth has worked hard her whole life - she is often is the person supporting others or being relied upon. Her work has connected and positively impacted the lives of so many. This is our opportunity to give back to an extraordinary woman; to provide a community safety and care net for her and her family as she adapts to life with this challenging illness.

Every little helps. Thank you.

*Pemphigus is a rare disease that causes blistering on many parts of the body, including the skin and the inside of the mouth, nose, and eyes and other mucous membranes like the oesophagus, parts of the gastrointestinal tract, and cervix. In pemphigus, the immune system mistakenly attacks cells in the top layer of the skin. Janneth is one of only approximately five people in Aotearoa with pemphigus - the disease only affects one or two in a million.

*Anterior cutaneous nerve entrapment syndrome (ACNES) occurs when nerves within the abdominal wall— the anterior cutaneous abdominal nerves — become pinched or entrapped within the abdominal wall muscle.

2% Effective Fee
On average, fundraisers pay just 2% to use Givealittle. This is one of the lowest effective fees in New Zealand fundraising. We charge a 5% platform fee to cover the cost of running the platform. Because most donors choose to top up their donation to cover this fee, the effective cost paid by fundraisers is about 2%. That means around 98 cents of every dollar raised goes to the cause. Janneth, I wish you and your family the best. I know from experience that Pharmac funds such a frustratingly tiny amount of much medication and sometimes the only place to get them is by accessing and paying for them overseas
