Raising funds for original Japanese music & choreography - to show case this magnificent slice of Japanese traditional culture in Auckland
Auckland
We are Japanese cultural dance group called Southern Stars – we have performed at various events in New Zealand including Santa Parade, Japan Day and Rugby World Cup back in 2011.
Our aim is to promote “Yosakoi Soran” dance in New Zealand and offer every New Zealanders a little slice of Japanese culture. Yosakoi Soran dance initially started in Kochi (in Shikoku, Japan) back in 1954 to cheer up citizens after the WWII. It is now loved by all Japanese and there are several large festival held every year in Japan including one in Kochi and one in Sapporo, Hokkaido.
It is our 20th anniversary this year since we started in Auckland back in 2003. To celebrate and continue promoting this wonderful dance in New Zealand, we would like to create a new team music and choreography.
We generally get funding from performing at various events and also membership fee. However due to COVID, we haven’t been able to perform at any events for the last 2 years. We are also struggling to attract new team members as there are no Japanese students/working holiday people coming to New Zealand who make up a large part of our team.
Please help us create a new music for our team so that we can continue performing in New Zealand!
