Help give our amazing Mum more time. She needs our help and we need your help.

Waikato

Our beloved Mum, Sister, Daughter, Aunty and Friend, Jill has been unexpectedly diagnosed with stage four bowel cancer that has spread to the liver. Unfortunately it is inoperable and the cancer is incurable.

Anyone who knows our Mum would know that she is the most positive person to be around, bubbly, caring and absolutely adores her whānau. We hope that this treatment will give her more time with her loved ones and to see her daughters get married.

The only hope we have of helping with this extensive cancer, are non-funded drugs. They must be administered through a private facility and like the cost of the drugs, that is expensive. The unfunded drugs are called pembrolizumab which has shown to work well against Mum's genetic cancer cells (MMRD) combined with ipilimumab will give her a better fighting chance at killing this ugly disease. Unfortunately, with two years of treatment needed and the costs sitting at approximately 140k for the first year alone and an estimated 50k for the second year the costs are piling up fast. Our Mum does not have health insurance and is financing herself, these costs include the drugs, consults, scans and administering fees.

Our Mum is not the type of person to ask for help as she likes her independence. However, right now she needs the support of everyone and whether its a dollar or a message of support, we would really appreciate it.

Latest Update  15 September 2021

Our Mum Jill has just received results from her first post-treatment CT.

Overall, there has been a good uptake of meds, with a reduction in size of liver lesions and abnormal lymph nodes; a nodule on the adrenal gland is no longer discernible (it’s gone! 😊) and no new cancer was detected. Yay!! Very good news as often there is not a lot of change at the first CT following treatment. So, we continue the fight…… and with your help.

“Kindness can transform someone’s dark moment with a blaze of light. You’ll never know how much your caring matters”.

Again, our thanks for your support and God bless

Jill Bridges and family xx
