Help out 17 year old NZ XCO junior national champion get over to Europe to race against the best of the best
Te Aroha, Waikato
Hi I’m James Climo, I’m 17 years old and I live in Hamilton. Saturday the 10th of May I plan on doing an Everesting up Mount Te Aroha as a fundraiser to help pay for my flights, accommodation, insurance etc. For those who don’t know an everesting is challenge where you climb the height in elevation gain of Mount Everest in one ride (8849 meters straight up). This fundraiser is to help me race on in Europe for 2 months from August to September. Anyone who is keen is able to join me for a few laps otherwise there will be some baking for sale at the bottom of Tūī Road, Te Aroha
A little story to share how if got to where I am now
I started riding bikes with my dad when I 4 or 5 straight away I was hooked and loved the adrenaline I’d always try keep up with dad on my rigid 20 inch bike even though sometimes I’d hit the deck hard. I try to earn everything I have because bikes are not cheap and Mum and Dad can’t pay for everything, last summer 2023/24 I got a part time job and was working 40 hr plus weeks to try pay for a new bike which helped me have a very successful 2024. To now I quit school at 16 after completing year 12 and started an electrical apprenticeship which I really enjoy but trying to juggle it with training is unsustainable and draining mentally and physically. I’ve had my share fair highs and and lows these past months but I’ve had to make decisions to not continue with my apprenticeship if I want to have my best shot at trying to make it as a professional cyclist
All the money will go straight towards flights, accommodation, food, insurance, transportation, etc while over in Europe
