Please support our dear friends Erica and Steve Anderson so they can stay with their son to support him through a major health crisis.
Wellington
Our dear friends Erica and Steve Anderson's son Kyle has had a dramatic and extremely rare immune response to the Epstein Barr Virus. As a result of this his own immune system set about attacking his organs and he has been in ICU at Wellington hospital since the 15 January fighting back. He was lucky that the wonderful clinician's in Wellington were able to identify the cause in time to start the aggressive treatment required to stop the progression of this life-threatening condition, but the fight is not over yet.
His parents have been by his side constantly through this hugely stressful time, with all of their friends offering them emotional and spiritual support, however the pressure of having to return to work in Blenheim in order to ensure they are financially supported is looming fast. This page has been created in order for Erica and Steve to be able to remain together in Wellington with Kyle for as long as they need to be there. The mental and emotional anguish they have been going through does not need to be further compounded with the added burden of financial stress.
For Erica and Steve returning to work would require them going back to Blenheim and leaving Kyle in Wellington which, apart from being no easy commute, the stress of not being there for Kyle would most likely be more than they could bear at this stage. Steve has been a volunteer fire-fighter for much of his life and is currently serving in the NZ Airforce, Erica is an amazing mum and friend who works in a health centre and would help anyone in need. Kyle is a special son, brother, cousin, grandson and mate with a long recovery ahead. If you feel you are able to help please donate today.
Close friends who have spend the last 3 weeks in ICU in Wellington with their precious son who is suffering from a rare and dramatic immune response to the Epstein Barr virus and is likely to be looking at a long recovery. They are from Blenheim and costs are going to start to mount with pressure for Erica to return to work in Blenheim, as her leave runs out, when she should be able to be with Steve and their son without the added burden of financial pressure on top of the emotional and mental stresses they have been facing during his sudden illness.
To cover living costs and expenses that result from Kyle's condition and extended recovery. If the funds raised are more than is required any surplus will be donated to Ronald McDonald House and the Life Flight Trust NZ.
Kyle well on way to recovery 26 February 2019
Kyle is now recovering as a day patient based at the amazing Ronald MacDonald house, with his folks, until he can be discharged sometime following his last round of treatment next week. Kyle and his family have been on a rollercoaster ride over the last 2 months, and only in the past couple of weeks have they been able to see light at the end of this dark time. Kyle's wacky humour is intact and his smile is infectious, he's an inspiration and incredibly greatful to the wonderful team at Wellington ICU - especially Tracey his care assistant who's humour helped him through! They can't thank all the generous donors enough for the gift you have given them - the time and space to heal. To Kyles mates who shaved their heads to support him...you guys are amazing .. Thank you everyone for your generosity and kind words they have meant the world to this lovely family.
you guys rock - your haircuts made Kyle's day!
