19-year old aspiring ballerina
International
Hi, I’m Miu, a 19-year-old aspiring ballerina.
I started ballet at 5, and ever since, becoming a professional dancer has been my dream. But because of my mental breakdown from Japanese ballet education, I quit dancing for about two years. Ballet has always been my pure passion and joy — but it also deeply challenged me.
During those years without dance, I realized I couldn't find anything I loved more. Dance is my soul, and I want to make this happiness my lifelong career.
When I moved to New Zealand to study abroad, I met amazing teachers who encouraged me to dance again. Starting over was hard — I began with one class a week, and over time, built up to 20+ hours weekly. At the same time, I worked 20+ hours at a local café to support myself and keep dancing.
Now, after returning to Japan due to my visa ending, I’m working 45+ hours a week to save for tuition and living expenses in Germany. But with the weak yen, it's been incredibly tough.
I know I’m older than many dancers beginning their careers, but I believe this is my last chance — and I’m not ready to give up. Obviously I’m not good enough, but I believe in my artistry and musicality. These qualities support my dancing and allow me to express something meaningful through movement. My hope is to become a dancer who can inspire the next generation — just like I was inspired by the dancers who touched my heart.
Any support, no matter how small, would mean the world and help me keep dancing toward my dream. Thank you so much.
