Support Noor on its journey to film festivals around the world!
Wellington
Kia ora,
My name is Sahar, and this year I completed a documentary as part of my Master of Fine Arts (Film) at Victoria University. The film, Noor, tells the story of Moreen - an extraordinary woman who fled the war in Iraq and rebuilt her life in New Zealand. Arriving with no English, no formal education, and no family, she overcame immense challenges to become the first Iraqi policewoman in New Zealand. Moreen’s story is one of resilience, courage, and hope. Today, she stands as a powerful role model within the migrant community and beyond.
Since its initial screenings in March, Noor has received overwhelmingly positive feedback from audiences and film industry professionals, with wide encouragement to enter film festivals. We are now wanting to share this story more widely by submitting the film to national and international film festivals.
Festival submission fees typically range from $30–$150 USD per entry, and these costs quickly add up. With your support, we hope to submit Noor to multiple festivals, giving it the opportunity to reach audiences around the world!
Everyone who donates will receive a private screener link to the documentary.
Your contribution will help amplify Moreen’s story - one that celebrates resilience, challenges stereotypes, and inspires empathy and connection. It is my hope that Noor creates a meaningful impact on those who watch it, sparking conversation and contributing to a more compassionate and inclusive society.
Thank you for your support.
