Please support our New Zealand National Chess team, representing our country at the 2018 World Chess Olympiad this September
Nationwide
Chess is the game for all people, all ages and all countries. A game humans have played for centuries - it is endlessly fascinating and challenging. Worldwide, chess is the game played by more people than any other sport or game!
Every 2 years FIDE (the body that administers global chess) holds the WORLD CHESS OLYMPIAD – a chance for teams of men and women from almost 200 countries to compete against each other.
This year the 43rd World Chess Olympiad will be hosted in the city of Batumi , Georgia in September. The New Zealand Chess Federation is sending two teams to represent New Zealand in the world’s biggest battle of the brightest minds!
New Zealand has been sending teams to every World Chess Olympiad since the late 1960’s. Each time our teams compete we naturally want them to do better than the last Olympiad. To this end we have been very fortunate to engage the services of Bulgarian Grandmaster Dejan Bojkov and Brazilian International Master Herman van Riemsdijk as Coaches and Captains of our NZ teams.
Like so many of our New Zealand representative teams, our NZ Olympiad Chess Teams do not receive Government support to represent their country. Our NZ team consists of 10 players, 1 Captain and 2 x Coaches. The estimated total costs of our NZ delegation will be around $56,000.00
1. Cover the travel expenses of our Open and Women teams.
2. Cover the expenses of coaching and training before the tournament.
